New Climate and Health Ambassadors Program
Physicians for Social Responsibility is a 501(c)(3), Nobel Peace Prize-Winning non-profit organization that mobilizes health professionals to advocate for climate change and clean energy solutions and for the abolition of nuclear weapons in order to reduce health harms through policy changes at the local, national, and international level. As part of our environmental health initiatives, we have an opportunity for health professional students and early career health professionals (<35 years of age): the Next Generation Climate and Health Ambassadors Program.
This program empowers young and emerging health professionals and health professional students to become leaders in the climate justice movement. As future healthcare practitioners and educators, we recognize that this cohort will be trusted messengers of information to the wider public. NextGen Ambassadors engage in efforts aimed at federal policy to accelerate a transition to a clean-energy future and mitigate climate change effects. In addition, critical environmental justice issues are a key focus of this program, in partnership with local PSR chapters and environmental justice groups. Ambassadors also receive training on climate and health issues and on advocacy skills that enable them to work within their local communities. Moreover, the program is not limited to medical/clinical professions. We welcome health professionals and health professional students from the entire sector to join (Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Physical Therapy, Psychotherapy, and more). No expertise or prior knowledge of climate and health issues is necessary to become an ambassador. The Next Generation Climate Ambassador program usually follows the typical Fall semester/Spring semester timeline, allowing for two cohorts through the school year.
If you are interested in becoming an ambassador, please check out the PSR website and sign up for email alerts to receive application information (usually late summer for the Fall cohort and early Winter for the Spring cohort). If you have any other questions, please contact the Environment & Health program at PSR National (environment@psr.org). We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to create a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
