Physicians for Social Responsibility

New Climate and Health Ambassadors Program

Physicians for Social Responsibility is a 501(c)(3), Nobel Peace Prize-Winning non-profit organization that mobilizes health professionals to advocate for climate change and clean energy solutions and for the abolition of nuclear weapons in order to reduce health harms through policy changes at the local, national, and international level. As part of our environmental health initiatives, we are currently designing a new Climate and Health Ambassadors Program to include a younger, more diverse cohort of medical students, residents, and health professionals.

This new program will empower young and emerging health professionals to become leaders in the climate justice movement. As future healthcare practitioners and educators, we recognize that this cohort will be trusted messengers of information to the wider public. While ambassadors will engage in efforts aimed at federal policy to accelerate a transition to a clean-energy future and mitigate climate change effects, a key focus of this program are current critical environmental justice issues; ambassadors will receive skills training on climate and health issues that allow them to work within their local communities. Moreover, the inaugural class of ambassadors will have the opportunity to shape this new program in a collaborative manner, as we at PSR will work with them to implement their ideas and suggestions on an array of issue areas and development. No expertise or prior knowledge of climate and health issues is necessary to become an ambassador. There is no strict time commitment for ambassadors, we just expect ambassadors to be engaged in one local project or initiative per month.

If you are interested in becoming an ambassador, please fill out this survey, which asks for your interests, demographics, and understanding of important issues, all feedback which we will incorporate as we develop the programming. If you have any other questions, please contact Mari Faines (mfaines@psr.org) and Becca Phillips (rphillips@psr.org). We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to create a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
